Project Description
Xi’an Xianyang International Airport
Client: Xi’an Xianyang International Airport
Since 2012, Landrum & Brown has provided consulting services for Xi’an Xianyang International Airport, L&B has worked closely with the Xian Airport to completely rethink its master plan to support the growth of the airport and become a truly integrated multi-modal transportation hub. The resulting master plan envisioned a new east terminal area, with an air passenger terminal integrated with rail transport and commercial functions. A consortium led by L&B was the winner for the new Terminal 5 architectural design competition, announced in May 2017. Since then, L&B has been actively engaged with the design Institute to make Terminal 5 a truly world-class, innovative airport meeting the Airport’s high passenger experience and operational efficiency requirements.
The new passenger T5 terminal was designed to serve 50 million passengers in the near-term (2030) and 70 million passengers in the long term (2050), with the addition of a satellite terminal. The 700,000 square meters passenger terminal will allow for future expansion with a second level of baggage claim to accommodate satellite terminal passengers, and two levels of elevated departure curbs to meet future demand. A key feature to allow for operational flexibility and growth in international demand is two concourses of swing gates, which can be used for either domestic or international flights. Also, the terminal is also integrated with a ground transportation center, which includes rail and bus facilities, car parking, hotels, and commercial facilities.
As a key partner of Xian international airport and china west airport group, for almost 10 years, L&B has a clear understanding of the history of the airport and its long-term goals. Following the new terminal design project, L&B has also been engaging in other operational studies to support the Airport’s goal to be a convenient transfer hub as a large airport with two terminal areas.
Other related studies include:
- Phase III Expansion Pre-planning and Consulting
- Existing International Facility Renovation Consultation and International Concourse Consulting
- East Terminal Area Planning and East Terminal Building Architectural Design
